Neurotoxins are Harmful to you and your child’s health. Sometimes with head lice, there is a need for repeated treatment as a result of not having had an individualized treatment plan laid out for you and your family. A lot of the over the counter products use potentially harmful chemicals to kill lice and their eggs (nits). We only use all natural, chemical free products. Also, it can be very difficult and timely to get rid of all the Nits. They are small and sometimes hard to identify if you do not know what you are looking for. Head Lice and Nits can vary in size and color as well and if they are not all removed, you will likely have a re-infestation within 1-2 weeks of identification and attempted removal.
We are highly experienced in the identification of what Head Lice, Nymphs (baby head lice) & Nits (eggs) look like and we do a very thorough and “Perfectly Nit Picky” removal of all. If all have been removed and a client follows the recommended individualized Post - Head Lice & Nit Removal plan, at the 6-8 day follow up there should be no head lice. Once you are rid of it, you would only get it again within that 30 day window if you were exposed again.
After a Head Lice & Nit Specialist completes your Initial Head Lice & Nit Removal, you will be given both verbal and written or emailed instructions on what to do from then on. You will also schedule with your Head Lice & Nit Specialist a follow up head check at 6-8 days post removal. Any special instructions will be discussed with you and you are free to call with questions and or needs in the mean time.
Head Lice do not fly or jump. They crawl, so it takes sharing a hat, a brush, being in very close contact with someone or laying on something that was very recently laid on by another person with Head Lice.
There are 3 stages:
Nits (eggs) - Laid by the female adult louse at the base of the hair shaft nearest to the scalp. They are usually 0.8 mm by 0.3 mm, oval shaped and are white, brown, tan or yellowish in color. Hatching time frame - 6 - 9 days. Eggs lose viability if not in close proximity to the scalp (within 6 mm). Nits (eggs) need the warmth of the scalp and will die if they become dislodged from the hair or removed before they hatch.
Nymph - Is the new hatchling and looks like an adult head Lice but is about the size of the pinhead of a sewing needle. They then go through 2 molten (growing) stages (at 2 days & 5 days) and become adults by day 7 following them hatching.
Adult Louse - Is about the size of a Sesame Seed, have 6 legs and can range from light white -tannish to grayish in color. Females are usually larger than males and can lay up to 8 nits per day. Adult head lice can lice up to 30 days if on a person’s scalp/head. For an adult to live, the louse must feed on blood several times a day. Without blood, the Head Lice will die within 1 to 2 days off of the host.
There is no exact time frame. Every case is different and the time it takes is going to be directly related to how bad of a Head Lice infestation someone has, how long their hair is, how thick or thin their hair is, and how many family members there are needing Head Lice & Nit Removal at once.
On Average:
Short Hair - 1-1.5 hours per client
Shoulder Length Hair - 1.5-2 hours per client
Long Hair - 2 - 2.5 hours per client
